Gov’t Mule kicked off their annual run of New Year’s shows at the Beacon Theatre in New York City last night, a concert that featured a couple of surprise special appearances by rock legends.
Halfway through the second set, Vanilla Fudge’s Carmine Appice appeared behind the drum set and knocked out a stellar version of the group’s arrangement of theSupremes classic, “You Keep Me Hangin’ On.” The Doors guitarist Robby Krieger, who’s scheduled to be the opening act for tonight’s New Year’s Eve show, also joined the band onstage for the encore. Krieger sat in for a medley of three Doors tunes: “The Changeling,” “Cars Hiss By My Window” and “Five to One.”
