Foo Fighters

While Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins’ side project, Chevy Metal, is primarily known as a cover band, the group will soon be delivering some original material.

Hawkins tells Rolling Stone that he’s teamed up with Foos frontman Dave Grohl and his Chevy Metal band mates to create a nine-and-a-half-minute song, which they'll release under a new moniker, Birds of Satan. While Hawkins didn’t reveal much about the track, he expects to unveil it “before the end of the year.”

Hawkins also posted a video that documents Chevy Metal’s recent tour, which took place during the Foos hiatus. The nearly-six minute clip features a number of random behind-the-scenes moments showing the guys hanging out backstage and sharing a meal while out on the road, mixed with footage of the group performing covers of Van Halen’s “Panama” and The Beatles’ “Come Together.” The video also features cameos by Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and Jane’s Addiction singer Perry Farrell, who sat in with the band at Lollapalooza Chile over the summer.

“We were lucky enough to have [Farrell] up there,” he explains. “All those years ago I went to the first one, but we were lucky enough to have him come up on stage and play ‘Mountain Song’ with us and he hung out for a couple of more songs too, sang along with us.”

Hawkins adds while he’s back with Foo Fighters working on the follow-up to 2011’s Wasting Light, he hopes to “do a bit of press” and perform some shows with Birds of Satan.
